Cadillac has taken the wraps off of the 2017 XT5, the replacement for their popular two-row SRX crossover and their next attack on the luxury car leaders.

The automaker took the wraps off of the XT5 at a fashion event Wednesday in New York City. We saw the finished product back in June, when it was captured during a photo shoot in Cadillac's new home borough of Manhattan.

The XT5 uses Cadillac's new nomenclature for crossovers, just as the CT6 sedan used the CT- prefix destined for the brand's new cars as it better aligns itself to be a major rival to BMW, Lexus and Mercedes.

Cadillac's rival for the 2016 Lexus RX is reportedly based on GM's new Chi platform that should underpin a number of the company's future crossovers and even the long-rumored three-row Cadillac crossover to sit under the big, truck-based Escalade. While official photos haven't been released yet, the XT5 looks to keep similar proportions to the outgoing SRX, with lots of cues from the ATS, CTS and CT6 sedans.

The XT5 should use some of the engines destined for the CT6 and other future Cadillacs, including the updated version of GM's 3.6-liter V6.

Cadillac also used the XT5 to showcase a new fashion partnership with Public School, according to AdAge, which will use the car as inspiration for a new line.

Look for more details about the 2017 XT5 ahead of November's Dubai Auto Show and the car's on-sale date around the start of 2016.
