Shanghai Hotel Adds BMW i8 To Its Service Fleet

The Peninsula Shanghai has become the world’s first five-star hotel to feature a BMW i8 in its fleet.

The hotel is known for supporting electric mobility, as it has installed public charging stations compatible with all electric cars standardized for China.

As a result, BMW decided to offer an i8 to The Peninsula Shanghai, whose guests will be able to experience the plug-in hybrid sports car for themselves. The move is part of BMW Group’s efforts to promote electric mobility in China and comes after the company handed over a BMW i3 to the Kempinski Hotel Beijing last year.

Rolls-Royce, BMW and Mini vehicles are used as limousine service cars at each of The Peninsula Hotels worldwide, as part of a partnership between BMW Group and the luxury hotel network. BMW has sold well over 4,000 i8 sports cars worldwide since the model launched in June 2014.

The automaker is promoting the construction of public charging networks in China by collaborating with major Chinese state and local enterprises such as the State Grid, Shanghai Electric Power, Expo Shanghai Group, Vanke Group and Swire Group.

The company also assists private customers to switch to electric driving by offering free BMW i wall-boxes (including installation) to the first BMW i customers. Furthermore, BMW i authorized dealers are required to make sure all BMW i customers have adequate access to a charging point.
